On computers, security settings include disk encryption (FileVault on Mac, BitLocker on Windows) to protect data if the device is lost or stolen, a firewall that’s actually enabled rather than left in its default state, automatic screen locking after a period of inactivity, and account-level protections like requiring a password to wake from sleep. Browser security settings deserve separate attention too, since browsers have their own permissions system controlling camera, microphone, and location access on a per-site basis, along with tracking protection settings that vary significantly between browsers and their default configurations.
